2015 Special Olympics

Justin Bastien's recent collaboration with Microsoft brought him to the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles to shoot four inspiring athletes from around the world. Justin captured each of their incredible stories through competition footage and interviews showcasing their passion and dedication to their sports. No distance was too far, no obstacle too difficult, no hurdle too high for these athletes to reach their personal bests.

The four films were shot, edited and scored to original music over the course of four days. We kept pace with the athletes, families and coaches as these emotional stories unfolded on a daily basis. Their heartfelt wins, loses, struggles and triumphs were exciting to follow. The objective of this quick turn around was to share the athletes' stories with the online audience while they followed along on social media and other outlets. Thank you to the Special Olympics, Microsoft and Todd Hannigan, the music composer, for bringing these great stories together.

Shark Diving in New Zealand

While shooting Microsoft's Global Social Media Campaign in New Zealand I had the exciting opportunity to photograph shark scientist Riley Elliott along with a few scary ocean critters. We filmed a few things on the boat and under the water to share the experience with you. And yes, it was super scary!

Wells Fargo "Game Changer" Commercial

This was a fun spot I recently shot with my friend and great Director of Photography, Alexis Zabe for Wells Fargo. It was blast climbing and hanging on the side of cliff while filming the actors as they went through their hilarious lines. Alexis set me up on a tethered Alexa M with a lightweight lens so I could be light and nimble while I was on the cliff. It really helped me move around and get the key shots we needed for the spot. I think I still have bruises on my hips from hanging in my harness all day, but it was well worth it.

Duracell "Powering Kevin Jorgeson, World-Class Free Climber" Commercial

This was a super cool spot I got to work on with my good friends, doing what we all love, making cool work in the outdoors and working with great people. It was so cool to watch Kevin climb this crimpy slab at night lit by only the light from his headlamp. You can only imagine what he went through to pull off the first ascent of the Dawn Wall on El Cap with Tommy Caldwell over all of those years on the wall.
